Gentle coffee cultivation – our philosophy for quality and sustainability
At Matengo Highlands Coffee, our coffee is more than just a product - it is the result of years of dedication, respect for nature and the region's heritage. Our gentle coffee farming combines the centuries-old farming methods of the Matengo people with modern, sustainable practices to produce the highest quality Arabica coffee.
Why sustainable cultivation?
Coffee cultivation in the Matengo highlands has a long history and is deeply rooted in the culture of the region. The Matengo people have perfected their agricultural practices over generations. These traditional methods are not only good for the coffee, but also for nature and the local people.
We make sure that our cultivation is in harmony with nature. For us, careful means that we use the region's resources respectfully and sustainably - without harming the environment. We believe that good coffee can only be produced when the conditions are right for nature and people. That's why we rely on practices that preserve the local coffee culture, protect the environment and improve the quality of life of the local people.
Our cultivation process – from seedling to cup.
-
Choosing the location:
Our fields are located at an altitude of about 1,400 meters in the Matengo highlands, a region known for its exceptional growing conditions. The fertile soil and climate in this region provide ideal conditions for growing Arabica coffee. -
Sustainable cultivation:
We use organic fertilizer produced by our own cattle. This sustainable method not only protects the soil but also promotes biodiversity. The crops are grown without the use of chemical fertilizers. Our fields are naturally diverse - surrounded by trees that not only provide shade but also protect the ecosystem. -
Harvest:
The coffee is picked by hand to ensure that only the ripest cherries are processed. This careful selection of cherries guarantees a particularly high quality of the final product. Each step is carried out carefully and responsibly to preserve the taste and purity of the coffee. -
Processing:
After the harvest, the coffee is carefully processed. The beans are carefully washed and dried to extract the best aromas. We rely on small batches and constant quality control throughout all process steps to preserve the natural character of the coffee. -
Roasting:
After drying, the beans are roasted in small batches to bring out the best in their flavors. This is how we create a full-bodied, balanced taste that reflects the uniqueness of the Matengo highlands.
Our responsibility – for the environment and the local people.
Our careful cultivation goes beyond the coffee itself – we bear responsibility for the people and nature in our region.
-
Preservation of local coffee culture:
We are actively committed to preserving the traditional coffee culture of the Matengo. Through our investments in coffee cultivation, we not only promote the quality of the coffee, but also the knowledge and skills of local producers. This strengthens the local community and secures their future in coffee cultivation. -
Improving infrastructure:
Another part of our commitment is to improve the infrastructure in the region. We invest in construction projects and the provision of materials for processing coffee. These investments not only benefit coffee cultivation, but also improve the living conditions of the local people. -
Protection of nature:
The Matengo Highlands region is of impressive natural beauty. To preserve this, we are committed to protecting biodiversity and the sustainable use of natural resources. Our practices are based on organic farming principles to ensure that nature is protected in the long term.
Hence careful cultivation.
In summary, every bean we grow and process carries not only the story of the Matengo tribe, but also the stories of the people and nature of this region. We believe that quality and sustainability go hand in hand - and you can taste it in every cup.
